Week 6

6-1

Final Project

Assignment II: Curate an 8 minute experience that triggers an emotion

Prompts:
Make everyday patterns tangible, make it felt
Create a composition: sound, space, visuals

What’s the one meaningful thing from class? What is the effect of the pattern you’re trying to achieve?
What tangible experience can you create to express those patterns?

At first, I am thinking about the experience with the pattern. And whether I can use the pattern to create some feeling. And then, the breath came to my mind. It is composed of inhaling and exhaling, like a song, only with two kinds of notes. But everyone has their own speed or own rhythm. It also changed a lot when we were in different emotions. For instance, when we want to calm down, we always say, "take a deep breath." which makes this song in a long, slow tune.

Add some of my personal experience. I always feel healing and stable when staying at the beach while staring at the waves. The waves also consist of hitting the shore and leaving the shore. So I match the breath sound and a visual of the sea together, trying to recreate a peaceful experience. I made this sketch with the recorded breath audio and made it interactive by the microphone with our breath sound. So we can create our version of breath sea scenes. And we can consciously observe the pattern in our bodies.
