Week 3

3-1

( 1 ) Assignment 1

Looking back at last week's sketches, I wondered what these practices fascinated me. It reminds me of the fish I kept on my desk in college. I always looked at the fish and thought of how beautifully the fish swim, swinging and spinning gracefully. So I tried to put last week's grid film sketch into a 3D space, thinking that it might be able to increase the depth. After I tried adding WEBGL in p5.js, I found that the movie moved in 3D space can form another slit-scan effect, which perfectly matched my intention to keep the swimming track.

In the sketch which I tried to keep track of last week (the orange one), I realized that it's a little challenging to separate the fixed parts and the fish movement. This week, I used the advantage of the SCREEN blend mode: the black part that won't stay, and adjusted the movie's background. Finally, I have an apparent movement.

At last, I rotated the whole sketch slowly for a different visual experience and added some sounds and settings to interact with the mouse. Combining these allowed the picture to retain the dynamics of fish swimming and provided a distinct sense of space experience.
